Nabil Tarazi
Nabil Tarazi is a computer engineer who, after 17 years in the technology sector, left his Vice President role at Matrox Electronic Systems in 2006 and spent a year backpacking in Australia and Asia. There he found his calling: adventure and ecotourism. He founded EcoHotels in Jordan in May 2009, and entered into partnership with the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature to manage and operate the only ecolodge in Jordan, Feynan Ecolodge. Under Nabil’s management, Feynan was converted from a lodge to a pioneering world class ecotourism destination, in the process achieving over 40 international awards and accolades, including being selected by National Geographic Traveler as one of the best 25 ecolodges in the world, and being the overall winner of WTM’s 2019 World Responsible Tourism Awards.
EcoHotels’ ethos rests firmly in Nabil’s belief that profits should be sought in line with benefit to the environment and the local communities that inhabit the areas where EcoHotels operates. At Feynan Ecolodge, that ethos revolves around 5 pillars: Giving guests unique and authentic experiences, benefiting the local community, supporting conservation, running the lodge with minimal environmental impact, and providing education and interpretation to visitors and the visited. At Feynan, over 100 families from the local community benefit directly from the lodge.
In 2023, Nabil setup Nastadeem, and partnered with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) to be the exclusive trainers in the Arab World for the GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Course and the Sustainable Hospitality Course. Nastadeem translated the GSTC Criteria into Arabic, and now conducts the trainings in both English and Arabic.
Nabil consults on sustainability and ecolodge/boutique hotel development and operation. He is a founding board member of the Global Ecotourism Network, and currently the organization’s treasurer.
